33 Books News

Hello from Portland!

Alt

I want to start this with a giant "Thank You," to you for being an early supporter of 33 Beers and 33 Wines tasting notebooks. The response has been incredible, and I know you are the reason. So, thank you.

Now, I don't intend to fill up your inbox with weekly, or even monthly e-mails ... I'm just going to send a simple note every once in awhile about what's new at 33 Books Co. I'll be respectful of your time, and of course, if you want to unsubscribe, I will honor that request with no hard feelings. But there's quite a lot to share, so, if you're still with me, on with the show!

New Book for Wine Lovers

Alt

If you didn't catch the subtle reveal in the first paragraph, there's a new tasting book for wine lovers, based on your requests.

Like the beer notebook, 33 Wines is designed for easy recall of a wine. It also includes a flavor wheel, notes area, and debuts a new color meter (it looks a bit like a thermometer) that can be used to record the color of wine, from a light-colored Champagne to a big, robust Cabernet.

Best of all, the ink contains a small amount of wine from my wife's family's winery in Spokane, Washington, and is 100% free of sulfites.

Speaking of free ... Subscriber Special: Enter "FREEWINE01" in the "Special Instructions" field in PayPal's checkout step to get 1 free wine book added to any order of 3 or more beer or wine books. Offer expires July 31st, 2010.

New Blog for Beer Lovers

Alt

We're in the midst of beer festival season here in Oregon. I just had a great time at the Oregon Brewer's Festival, which you can read about at 33 Beers' new blog, 999 Beers. I'm trying to sample a new beer every day for 999 days, and each day I post a new review, which follows the format of the 33 Beers book.

A favorite post recently had me sampling a bottle of MacTarnahan's Lip Stinger Farmhouse Ale directly from the bottle at a beautiful campground in Mt. Hood National Forest.

If you like your reviews in 140-character bursts, you can also follow @33beers on Twitter.

What Else is Brewing?

Coffee! I'm in the final stages of developing the newest member of the 33 Books family, 33 Coffees. Portland has a major passion for coffee, so it seemed like a natural next step, and I've had a lot of help from some of the West Coast's best baristas and biggest coffee geeks. The book will be released in August 2010.

Co-Branded Books. I've had lots of requests for custom, co-branded versions of both 33 Wines and 33 Beers that can be used as a giveaway/promotional item, and I'm pleased to say I've figured out how to do that in a fairly cost-effective way. E-mail me at dave@33books.com for more information on a custom book.

Lots of new retailers! 33 Beers books are now in more than 40 physical locations, and a growing list of states. If you'd like to become a retailer, or have an idea of someone you think would be a good retailer, drop me an e-mail!

Mobile Application. One of the most frequent questions I get is, "Have you considered a mobile application?" The easy answer is, "Of course!" But until a few weeks ago, the next sentence was "But I'm trying to focus on the physical version for now." Well, a little birdie stepped up to the plate, and we're hard at work on an Android version of 33 Beers, which should be complete in 6-8 weeks. I've seen the mockups, and I think people are really going to like it. Again, stay tuned.

That's all for now - thanks for reading, and again, thanks for your support!

- Dave
